I’m not planning to make a submission (I don’t qualify to travel to BCON) but I thought I would take the opportunity to clean up this splash screen. By default the 2.78 splash screen Blender file is 113MB (I’m ignoring the 29MB of textures), and it’s supposed to use procedural techniques, which it largely does, but there are quite a few missing opportunities for modifiers (mostly circular arrays, but there are others).
Here’s the original: https://cloud.blender.org/p/gallery/57e5084f0fcf294119c5055c
So far I’ve got it down to 90MB, but there’s plenty left to go. Favorite fix so far is converting this little element to use a Screw and Lattice modifier:
Got it down to just under 26MB. There is always something to improve, but this will get you most of the way there. Happy Blending, and best wishes for winning the competition! https://peripheralarbor.com/blender-278-splash_Blenderman_Cleanup.blend
Just to be clear, I’m releasing this cleaned up version for free for anyone to use, with or without crediting me (though you should definitely credit Juri Unt for the original model)
Hey! Just a quick reminder that there’s now less than 12 hours remaining to wrap up your challenge entry - submissions close at 2022-09-15T21:59:00Z, GMT+1 (click on the link for some international times).
If you haven’t done so already, please review this post which contains some essential information for preparing your submission.
At the very least, upload your work to Sketchfab as soon as possible and add the #bcon22challenge tag.
It’s also a good idea to add a link to your WIP topic in the description of your Sketchfab model so we can easily find it.
I’ll also keep a close eye on the FAQ topic today, so if you have any issues or questions please post it there as soon as possible.
